New Kindergarten Pötzleinsdorf
Three new buildings in prefabricated timber construction
Commissioned by the City of Vienna – MA10 – Vienna kindergartens, WIP (Vienna Infrastructure Project GmbH) is building three new prefabricated timber houses for kindergarten in Pötzleinsdorfer Straße 230, 1180 Vienna. The three existing buildings will be gradually demolished and by spring 2018 the new buildings with a gross floor area of approximately 3.600m² will be newly constructed in two phases during ongoing operation. The design is from the architectural office DI Michael Schluder and the execution is done by Ing. W.P. Handler Bauges.m.b.H. The ground-breaking ceremony took place at the beginning of October 2016 and the first two houses were opened at the beginning of November 2017 (completion of the first construction phase).
Ecology in focus
Particular attention is paid by the WIP to the environment or ecological aspects. The kindergarten is being built using sustainable low-energy construction methods from wood prefabricated parts. The advantages are a low noise pollution and a short construction time. The buildings were designed with a multiple use of defined areas, the conversion takes place during operation under a complex situation of construction site logistics (narrow access, construction site equipment, construction site traffic). To make matters worse, this is about building in the conservation area.
In the timber construction with load-bearing walls in wood frame construction or solid wood construction of cross laminated board for ceilings and roof materials such as glass foam, basement wall insulation and perimeter insulation with glass foam panels, wood wall insulation with mineral wool, a wooden slatted facade made of larch and a locally natural greening of the roof and the facade for use. Landscaping measures are also implemented, whereby the preservation of the diversity and frequency of the animal and plant species as well as their livelihoods and habitats is very important.
The heating and a supporting component cooling (screed) via a heat pump with deep probes, the top coverage of the heating is given by a natural gas spa. The heat distribution takes over the underfloor heating. In the controlled residential ventilation with heat recovery in summer, the conditioning and partial dehumidification is done by a heat pump. By means of a coordinated bus system, a networked, automated control system was provided between ventilation, underfloor heating or cooling and outside shading.
