Haus der Wildnis
With its modern exhibition and wide range of programs, the World Heritage Center House of Wilderness imparts knowledge about multi-layered natural processes. Interactive technology, such as augmented reality, can also be used to get close to the primeval forest without harming the animal and plant world.
The building was constructed in wood and stands out due to an interesting design of the roofscape. The roof design describes multiple interlocking shed roof areas at varying pitches and intersections. The primary support structure of the building was glulam construction. Vertical load transfer is provided internally by the log columns and along the exterior by wood stud walls. The concrete columns in the basement transfer the loads from the round timber columns on the first floor to the foundation. The secondary supporting structure in the roof was planned as an insulated rafter construction, with the roof type being a rear-ventilated cold roof construction with sheet metal covering.
RWT plus ZT GmbH was responsible for the structural design and building physics. It is a member of the Woschitz group GmbH.
