Blaha innovation centre Korneuburg
Construction of the Office Ideas Center
A new representative showroom with event center was planned for the family-run office furniture manufacturer Blaha. At the competition, which was initiated by Friedrich Blaha and Dietmar Steiner and the Architekturzentrum Wien, Eichinger’s or Knechtl’s design received the most encouragement: over a transparent glass base sits an aluminum shell that hides several generous levels. State-of-the-art technology is used to create a hybrid building in in-situ concrete combined with laminated timber beams and Isobox elements.
Ecological natural building material wood
The ecological natural building material wood offers limitless possibilities. The design and dramaturgy of the interiors are led by Gabriele Blaha, Hans Schürmann and René Chavanne. The Blaha BIZ Lounge became a communication center for customers and employees.
Sophisticated lighting concept
The furniture brand presents its high-quality and diversified product range on an exhibition area of around 4.000 m² distributed over three levels. Presentation and sales area, communication and work space at the same time, the architecture demands a sophisticated lighting concept. Thanks to the flexible Spherolit technology, the ERCO Opton spotlight allows a complex lighting concept.
The building envelope consists of a wooden construction. The glulam frames are based on the solid construction and were reinforced according to the moment course with CFRP blades. Isobox roof elements (prefabricated box elements) were laid on this main support structure. A tube connects the new with the old building. This tube consists of four parts, which were connected to each other using the drum principle by means of steel rings.
