Construction site update: Wien Museum NEW
The Wien Museum on Karlsplatz is being renovated with a new building. On November 10, 2021, a 165-ton steel truss was lifted onto the Haerdtl Building by a crawler crane, the biggest construction milestone of the Wien Museum NEU project. The 6.5 x 40 meter long steel truss was prefabricated by the company Urbas Maschinenfabrik Ges.m.b.H., from Carinthia. This steel truss, together with the almost identical truss in axis 8, forms the main supporting structure of the entire 4th floor. So-called ring trusses are supported on these two main trusses, which in turn support the ceiling structure above the 3rd and 4th floors. This means that the 3rd floor is almost column-free. Due to their high weight, the main trusses have to be transported and lifted in several partial segments.
