25. International Timber Construction Forum IHF 2019

Anniversary Event IHF

The International Forum on Timber Construction IHF 2019 took place from December 4th to December 6th, 2019 at the Congress Centre Innsbruck. More than 1,850 participants were expected to this anniversary event, which was the 25th IHF Congress.

The kick-off event on the morning of December 4th, 2019, was devoted to the framework conditions of timber construction.  This part was traditionally moderated by the LIGNUM Timber Industry form Switzerland. This part was followed by the Architecture Prologue (Prologue I). Its topic was “Simple Construction”, an area, which is attracting a growing interest due to the complexity of numerous construction processes. The schedule which in the past consisted of three prologues “Architecture”, “Prefabricated Construction” and “Timber House Construction” was extended to include the prologue “Connection Technology”. The Aalto University Helsinki organised this part.

The first day of the IHF Core Forum on December 5th, 2019, was marked by a short review of 25 years of development of the congress “IHF” and the presentation of the future challenges for timber construction. The review was provided by the FORUM TIMBER CONSTRUCTION and the second one by the ZUKUNFTSINSTITUT Vienna. Two events, “Wooden Structural Design” and “Development of Timber Construction”, followed in the congress’ schedule. Both events were designed to present outstanding current projects. Richard Woschitz, Managing Director of Woschitz Group GmbH, gave a lecture about the already well-known “HoHo Vienna”.

The second day of the IHF Core Forum was dedicated to a large number of presentations in parallel blocks. The renowned speakers gave lectures about structural design made by engineers, hall construction, multi-storey timber construction, and – as an innovation – about the “adventure timber construction.
