Kickoff Unistrand

  • Research project with BOKU Vienna, Dynea AS, Association of the Austrian Wood Industry, Hasslacher, Henkel, Holzcluster Steiermark, Huntsman Europe, Kaindl Flooring, Wood Competence Center, Metadynea Austria, Austrian Federal Forests, University of Graz.
  • Technological and constructive basics for a (approx. 7-15cm) thick panel-shaped wooden building material for multi-storey, structural building application are researched.
  • Starting material: long, thin wood particles (strands) which are produced with a high raw material yield (above 80%).
  • Raw material: Deciduous and softwood assortments or a combination.
  • A calculable intermediate product with improved mechanical properties compared to already established strand-based products (OSB, LSL) should be created by bonding as unidirectionally as possible to strand panels of different densities.
  • Finally, the required barrier effect and material thickness of the layered wall and ceiling elements is achieved by cross-layer bonding.
  • The foundations created form the basis for large-scale industrial implementation and pave the way for a next-generation resource-efficient wood construction material.
